District Conference 2022
Socialising
What would a district conference be without social events to meet and mingle with other Toastmasters?
For the conference in Lübeck we have thought about some events, which you can find here. You can use the corresponding links to register or to buy tickets.
We are looking forward to welcome you in the beautiful hanseatic city of Lübeck and to show you a beautiful city.
Social Events
Lisa von Lübeck
5-hour sailing tour on a historic ship, the only one of its kind.On Friday you have the unique chance to immerse yourself in the maritime world of the Middle Ages for five hours. The trip starts at 12 o’clock and takes you from the Wallhalbinsel, the historic port of Lübeck, on the River Trave to Travemünde. In Travemünde you will see the oldest lighthouse in Germany as well as the highest navigational light in Europe. With a little luck, the sailing ship PASSAT will sound her typhoon. After a short sailing trip on the Baltic Sea, you will return to Lübeck.
More information about the ship (unfortunately only in German) can be found at http://hanseschiff-luebeck.de/
The trip is free of charge and will be covered by District. Only the drinks consumed on board the ship have to be paid for by the participants themselves. As there are only a limited number of seats, it is necessary to register for the trip.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer any other social events. However, if you would like to spend a few pleasant hours in Lübeck, we can recommend the following places and activities:
European Hansemuseum
As a cultural and educational centre, the EHM is one of the best addresses for Hanse history worldwide. In cooperation with the affiliated ‘Research Centre for the History of the Hanse and the Baltic Sea Region’, the latest findings are made accessible.
Special exhibition
On the trail of the Hanse with LEGO bricks
As one of the most famous toy manufacturers in the world, LEGO inspires young and old. The colourful building blocks enable a creative staging of the Hanse history. In cooperation with Rene Hoffmeister (LEGO Certified Professional), six Hanse worlds will be lovingly recreated in great detail. Large models and dioramas are set to become an impressive and unique experience for the whole family.

Buddenbrook Haus - Thomas & Heinrich Mann
During the closure, the specially compiled show “Buddenbrooks im Behnhaus” will be presented at the Museum Behnhaus Drägerhaus, only a few hundred metres from the Buddenbrookhaus location at Königstrasse 9-11.
In the historical rooms, the Lübeck novels “Buddenbrooks” and “Professor Unrat” come to life. Both books caused a scandal in Lübeck, but made the Hanseatic city and its writing sons Heinrich and Thomas Mann world-famous. Accompany the Mann brothers and their works in the authentic atmosphere of the 19th century.

Willy Brandt-Haus
The Willy Brandt-Haus Lübeck is the place for contemporary history in the birthplace of the first Social Democratic Federal Chancellor and later Nobel Peace Prize winner.
Whether as a young Social Democrat, Nazi opponent and political refugee or later as a politician in Berlin and Bonn: Willy Brandt’s lifelong commitment to democracy is still encouraging today. Like hardly anyone else, he changed the Federal Republic of Germany and campaigned for peace and freedom in Europe and the world. The permanent exhibition is dedicated to this political life and offers a fascinating walk through the history of the 20th century.
